CALYX CHARITY CONCERT RAISES €100,000

Calyx Plc hosted a fabulous black-tie ‘Calyx Charity Concert’ for their customers, staff, suppliers and business partners in the National Concert Hall on Tuesday and raised €100,000 through contributions from Calyx and co-sponsors Commercial Wireless in the process for a Cerebral Function Monitor for The Coombe Hospital.

It was a very glamorous affair, with all the IT industry leaders and their partners in attendance. 1,200 guests arrived for a champagne reception in the National Concert Hall followed by a unique evening of music in the first, and one of the most spectacular, big events of the season.

Ireland’s internationally renowned solo artist Brian Kennedy headlined the show. Paul Byrom who also entertained on the night, was until last year one of the Three Irish Tenors and has since launched his solo career. Just last month he launched his third solo album ‘Velvet’. Bringing the hot-blooded passion of Argentinean tango to the National Concert Hall was the Neuvo Tango Quartet, as the audience enjoyed the accordion mastery from Dermot Dunne, the virtuoso gypsy fiddling of Ken Rice, the stunning lyricism of pianist Svetlana Rudenko and phenomenal jazz bass playing of Malachy Robinson.

An eclectic mix, to be sure, but a huge success none-the-less as proved by the long ovation following Brian and Paul’s two duets together on stage.

In it’s third year the Calyx Charity Concert raised €100,000 to buy a Cerebral Function Monitor for the Coombe Hospital. This is a state-of-the-art monitor that analyses blood flow in premature babies and thereby helps to identify if there are problems before any damage is done.

Maurice Healy, CEO, Calyx said; "We are delighted to host such a special evening and to be able to contribute to the Coombe Hospital by buying a much-needed machine like the Cerebral Function Monitor. The Calyx Concert was a spectacular night with something for everyone in the audience."
